Pros

- Quick return on investment due to near instant traffic along the path to purchase.
- Targeting people most likely to convert due to their search history. Retargeting available.
- Many payment models such as CPM (cost / 1000 views), CPA (cost / acquisition) , CPC (cost / click) allowing for maximum flexibility.
Cons
- Mistakes can get expensive quickly if the correct keywords aren’t used.
- Limited ad space. 3-4 lines of text only. The state of affairs is somewhat improving due to better visibility in search results on mobile.
- The costs per click have got quite high in some industries due to high competition and high conversion value.
- Adblockers are on the rise as more users choose to block out ads.

Facebook Ads
Pros
- Better targeting by demographics than Adwords. Can target people by their income, preferences, location and more. Has all the CPC, CPM functionality like Adwords.
- Richer ads able to be run as they allow promoted posts, promoted videos and display ads v/s just text ads and display ads on Google. You even have the ability to offer deals on your ad to further entice users.
- Cheaper to run than Google ads and more beneficial for raising awareness for your brand than getting active sales from the get-go. However, if you have a strong value proposition, these are perfect for you.
- Easier to set up than Google ads for easy reporting and a simple interface.
Cons
- Users aren’t on the path to purchase and get sick of old ads quickly requiring often updated creative.
- Not the best bet for b2b marketing. More suitable for b2c marketing.
- You need a long-term strategy in place for this to capitalise on the early wave traffic the ads will bring to you. Think email harvesting and automated email marketing.
- Adblockers are on the rise as more users choose to block out ads.
